7 – 8 October 2021
We are pleased to offer a fully interactive online version of our popular dealing with difficult situations course.
Who is the course for?
The course is designed for UNISON Eastern representatives with some experience of dealing with members’ problems.
What will the course help me to do?
- Understand the effects of body language and behaviour in difficult situations;
- Ensure that situations don’t escalate;
- Use different behavioural techniques when dealing with difficult situations;
- Develop personal strategies to deal with difficult people and situations.
When does the course run?
The course will be run on two separate dates.
This will be run via an online platform to support you and you will be able to interact with others that are on the course to learn and share experiences.
You will need to be available online from 10.30am to 1.30pm on 7 and 8 October 2021.
Can I get time off to learn?
Yes, if you are in a recognised workplace the Trade Union and Labour Relations (Consolidation) Act 1992 and the 1997 Safety Representative and Safety Committee Regulations give you the right to time off with pay to attend trade union courses. You just have to give your employer reasonable notice.
Guidance towards establishing what constitutes reasonable time off can be found in the ACAS Code of Practice.
Can I get time off for online courses?
Yes. Online learning is not an alternative to paid release from work. The law still applies, whether learning takes place away from work or in work, at a workstation or in a company learning centre.
If you’re having difficulty accessing paid time off please contact your local branch.
How much is the course?
There is a small charge of £20.00. Your branch will fund this cost and they will be invoiced once you have completed the course.
