Tackling Bullying and Harassment at Work – virtual version

18 October 2021 10:00am–3:00pm

We are pleased to offer this online course for trained activist and representatives who would like to learn more about bullying and harassment in the workplace.

What will the course help me to do?

The aims of this course are to:

  • Give participants an understanding of the issues of bullying and harassment at work
  • Encourage participants to challenge bullying and harassment in the workplace individually and collectively
  • Plan what to do on return to the work environment

This course is split into two modules, giving the option of running the course as a one day course with a lunch break, or alternatively over sessions scheduled on two separate days, whichever is more suitable for the particular region and its participants.

If you decide to run the course over two separate days you will need to use the ‘welcome back’ slide on the powerpoint presentation followed by a short recap of what was covered in the first module.

Please do stress the importance of reading the course materials in advance and completing the pre-course work in your confirmation email to attendees.

The following paragraph is contained at the beginning of the participants’ course materials. It is very important that participants complete the module to ensure that UNISON complies with GDPR regulations.

When does the course run?

You will be required to be online from 10.00am to 3.00pm on 18 October 2021.   An online platform joining link will be sent prior to the course.

Can I get time off to learn?

Yes, if you are in a recognised workplace the Trade Union and Labour Relations (Consolidation) Act 1992 and the 1997 Safety Representative and Safety Committee Regulations give you the right to time off with pay to attend trade union courses. You just have to give your employer reasonable notice.

Guidance towards establishing what constitutes reasonable time off can be found in the ACAS Code of Practice.

Can I get time of to learn online?

Yes.  Online learning is not an alternative to paid release from work. The law still applies, whether learning takes place away from work or in work, at a workstation or in a company learning centre.

If you’re having difficulty accessing paid time off please contact your local branch.
