UNISON Peterborough Citizens UK listening event

1 December 2020 6:30pm–8:00pm

UNISON is involved in an exciting project aimed at improving the lives of people who live or work in Peterborough.

What’s it about?

We are working with a wide range of organisations – schools, colleges, charities, faith groups – to identify the key issues that the city faces. The project is co-ordinated by Citizens UK who have extensive experience doing this work all over the country – including London, Manchester and Cardiff.

One of the biggest successes of Citizens UK is its living wage campaign in east London in 2001 which has since won close to a £1 billion in additional wages for low-paid workers. We hope Peterborough will one day be a Living Wage City.

The project was launched last month with over 110 people and 28 organisations in attendance.

UNISON is excited by this alliance to create power for the citizens of Peterborough. Over the next few months the project wants to reach out to as many people in Peterborough as possible. We want to find out what you think needs to change most to make Peterborough an even better place to live and work in.

We would like to invite you to participate in a listening event specifically for UNISON members. The aim of the meeting to is to discover the issues that are most important to our members. We are interested in whatever is important to you – even if it’s not necessarily related to your workplace.

All the other organisations that are part of the project are doing exactly the same with their members or service users. The aim is that over the next few months will have reached out to hundreds if not thousands of Peterborough residents. Once we are clear about the most important priorities, we can then all work together to campaign for the changes our city needs. The project will deliver grassroots social change for Peterborough.

You do not have to live in Peterborough to participate. People who work and spend a lot of their time in the city have invaluable insight on the issues affecting the city that we would be grateful to have in our meeting.
