UNISON members from the Southend branch spent last Thursday visiting their local libraries as part of the annual Save Our Local Services campaign.
This year’s SOS challenged the government’s library cuts and defended our precious library services and library workers.
The campaign highlighted how important libraries and library workers are to our community and that they do a lot more than lend books and provide a safe and quite place. The branch met library users and discussed with them the ways we can work together to protect our libraries.
This was followed up meetings with library workers across Southend, making sure they knew about this day of action and how important they were to the community and the union.
There is still time for you to show your support for libraries and the library workers:
- join your local library if you haven’t already, and make sure you visit and use the great range of services on offer
- fill out the ‘Tell us your story’ form on the Save Our Local Services campaign page
Thanks for all those that supported the day and let’s continue to highlight the importance of the library service and all its workers to the community. We need to make sure that library services are protected from further funding cuts so that we can continue to enjoy and benefit from them, now and in the future.
