UNISON Eastern members facing financial hardship because of Covid-19 are being encouraged to apply for special grants to help them get by.
UNISON’s There For You charity has set up a £250,000 fund to help members get through these difficult times.
The centrally administered fund means UNISON members can quickly access grants of £250 if their earnings have taken a hit or they’re experiencing higher work-related costs because of the Covid-19 pandemic, be that transport, care or laundry.
Members can read more, check if they qualify and apply for support on UNISON’s website.
UNISON Eastern welfare lead Kate Stafford welcomed the national initiative.
“Despite some Government support, public service workers across the East of England are feeling the bite as this pandemic continues,” she said.
“It’s great that There For You has stepped in to offer extra help to our members struggling on the front line or battling to keep it together in local councils, supporting the emergency services or keeping our environment and energy supplies going.”
Please note, the grants will be made on a first-come, first-served basis and will be paid until the fund is exhausted.
