We know that migrant care workers often face real struggles when they come to the UK for work.
In order to better highlight the issues migrant care workers face and better support staff, UNISON is carrying out a migrant care workers survey.
Winning better treatment for yourself, your colleagues and those yet to come is reason enough to take part, but you’ll also be entered into a prize draw to win £100 of high street vouchers when you complete the survey.
If you’re not a migrant care worker, please encourage any migrant care staff you know to take the survey.
Invite from Kelvin Imoloame
My name’s Kelvin. I’m a member of UNISON (the largest union for care staff) and an overseas care worker too.
I love my job, but I also face many challenges in my work, and I know the sector desperately needs to improve. That’s why I joined UNISON, and why I’m writing to you today.
Will you join me in sharing your experiences as a migrant care worker with UNISON?
The more UNISON knows about the lives of migrant care workers, the better placed it will be to support us.
UNISON plans to use the information we share to highlight the way some of us have been treated and to try to stop this from happening to others.
Together, we can push for change and ensure migrant care workers have respectable, safe and fairly paid jobs.
I recently joined the new (and first ever) national social care committee for UNISON. As its vice-chair, I know the commitment, energy and resources the union has to change things.
Please do share your experiences today and be part of making our work better. Every completed survey will be entered into a prize draw to win £100 of vouchers to spend on the high street.
Do also share the survey with other colleagues from overseas, either those you work with, or that you know from elsewhere. The more migrant care workers answering the survey questions, the better the picture we can build.
Thank you,
Kelvin Imoloame
Vice-chair, national social care committee, UNISON
PS The survey is confidential. Only UNISON will see details like your name and contact details. UNISON may share information like ‘x% of migrant care workers surveyed said x’, but it won’t reveal any personal details, unless you give them your permission. You can complete the survey here. It should only take five minutes.
