Voting opens for the country’s top trade union post

Ballot papers are going out today to elect one of the most important jobs in the country: UNISON general secretary.

Responsible for leading the largest union in the UK, the general secretary is a key voice for workers across the country, for public services and the people who staff and use them.

They talk to the press, to employers and to government about the things that matter to you and your colleagues.

And the best bit is they’re elected by and accountable to you. Every five years, every member gets a chance to vote for this key position.

UNISON Eastern has nominated a candidate (you can see the statement below), but the important thing is that you vote. You should receive your ballot paper by post (it’s the law) in the coming days. Make sure you keep your eyes peeled, open the pack and return the ballot part in the pre-paid envelope provided.
