UNISON Eastern has unveiled two special activist awards for 2026 as it opens nominations for the One Weekend gongs.
Nominations are invited for the social care active member of the year, open to anyone in UNISON Eastern who’s taken the pledge to be an active member in social care, and green activist of the year.
It follows a year of stellar activity in social care in the region, spurred by a desire to fight for better conditions and defend international workers in the sector from migrant-bashing politicians.
The green gong celebrates Year of Green Activity, a union-wide push for more environmentally friendly
The special 2026 awards sit alongside regular prizes for:
- Campaigning branch of the year,
- Health and safety branch of the year,
- Communications branch of the year,
- Activist of the year,
- Equalities activist of the year,
- Young activist of the year.
Your nomination (form individual members, staff or branches) will go to the lay reps on the regional finance, development and organisation committee (FDO). They’ll pick a winner to be revealed at the One Weekend in May.
Awards are also up for grabs for recruiting branch of the year and learning branch of the year based on UNISON records. And the FDO will pick and overall branch of the year from all the nominations received.
