Phil Green: an appreciation

We are sad to report that former regional organiser Phil Green has died after a brief illness. Phil started working for NALGO in 1980 in the union’s head office health section at Mabledon Place in London. In 2006 he came to the Eastern region where he worked with health branches and members until his retirement two years ago.

General secretary Dave Prentis said of Phil, “He is mourned and will be missed by those who knew and worked with him. His understanding and commitment to trade unionism, his sense of humour and relaxed style of engagement endeared him to many.

“His work on defending Hinchingbrooke Hospital from closure earned him the respect and appreciation of our members and the community. He died in that hospital on his 64th birthday.”

Phil leaves a son, Matthew, and a daughter, Sarah. All of us in UNISON offer our sympathies to them for the loss of their father.

The funeral will be held on Friday 9th December at Cambridge Crematorium, West Chapel from 13:30hrs.

The family have asked those attending the service to wear something red and colourful.

Flowers/cards should be sent to Dennis Easton Funeral Service, The Lodge Broad Leas, St Ives, PE27 5PU
