This online course is a great chance for elected welfare officers to get to grips with the job.
Please note it is being run by UNISON’s national learning team and to take part you will need to apply via UNISON’s national website.

- Understand your role and the confidentiality it involves,
- Develop influencing and communication skills and practice active listening,
- Understand the There for You UNISON Welfare charity structure and staff responsibilities,
- Understand the application process and areas where welfare can assist members,
- Practice presentation skills and how to handle problems in an assertive manner,
- Understanding the importance of promoting and publicising There for You.
When does the course run?
This course is delivered in two stages:
- Stage 1: a short introductory online module (1 hour) plus the GDPR e-note (20 mins)
- Stage 2: an online course taking place over two half days (from 10am to 1pm)
