Communicating to win

17 November 2023 10:00am–4:00pm

Higdon House, Kempson Way, Bury St Edmunds, IP32 7AR

How we communicate is central to our success as a union.

Whether it’s emails, social media or face-to-face conversations, a clear strategy around how we interact with members, non-members and others will help us with day-to-day recruitment and retention as well as take our campaigning to the next level.

This exciting new one-day course from UNISON Eastern is for branch secretaries or other branch leaders (max one per branch).

You will go away with a short and practical workshop to enable your branch to put together its own communications strategy

Can I get time off to learn?

Yes, if you are in a recognised workplace the Trade Union and Labour Relations (Consolidation) Act 1992 and the 1997 Safety Representative and Safety Committee Regulations give you the right to time off with pay to attend trade union courses. You just have to give your employer reasonable notice.

Guidance towards establishing what constitutes reasonable time off can be found in the ACAS Code of Practice.

How much is the course?

There is a charge of £30. Your branch will fund this cost and they will be invoiced once you have completed the course.
