This two day course is for existing stewards who have completed the five-day new stewards course.
What will the course help me to do?
The course reinforces some approaches and procedures introduced in the new stewards course and explores in more detail.
It explains further for identifying needs and exploring what is and isn’t a case. It recaps on sources of information especially the ACAS code.
The course prepares for a grievance and a capability case, planning and building a case including interviewing witnesses and possible outcomes from cases.
It aims to build confidence, getting organised and looking after yourself as a steward.
When does the course run?
This course runs on Thursday 6 and Friday 7 July at our Bury St Edmunds office, Higdon House, Kempson Way, IP32 7AR. Each day will start at 9.30am and be finished by 4.30pm.
Can I get time off to learn?
Yes, if you are in a recognised workplace the Trade Union and Labour Relations (Consolidation) Act 1992 and the 1997 Safety Representative and Safety Committee Regulations give you the right to time off with pay to attend trade union courses. You just have to give your employer reasonable notice.
Guidance towards establishing what constitutes reasonable time off can be found in the ACAS Code of Practice.
How much is the course?
There is a charge of £60. Your branch will fund this cost and they will be invoiced once you have completed the course.
