Success levels in race discrimination cases continue to be amongst the lowest despite long-established legislation.
To change this and improve the support members experiencing racism receive, UNISON has developed its race discrimination protocol.
It is an equalising tool that aims to provide a more transparent, effective and accountable way of dealing with race discrimination.
“Race Protocol in UNISON has helped understand my rights and gave me some guidance in handling my own case. I wasn’t confident of confronting the issue before because like others, I was scared of the consequences. But we shouldn’t be suffering in silence, as a UNISON member, I have discussed my case and get a legal view from Thompsons solicitors before putting something for my employer to consider. Through the protocol, I was able to articulate my issues and get support.” Rolando G.
