Serco strikers pose for a photo

Solidarity with the Serco strikes!

Thanks to individuals and organisations who have sent messages of solidarity to striking Serco refuse, street cleaning, grounds maintenance and cleansing workers in Breckland and North Norfolk.

You can read the messages below and add your own at the bottom of the page.

Norfolk County UNISON

Our branch is proud to support Serco members fighting for fair pay.

Years of below inflation pay awards with savings lining the pockets of Serco bosses and shareholders is being challenged.

Andrea Eagan, UNISON president

Taking action is never easy, but unless workers take in the bosses to challenge unfair pay, pay will be kept down!

Congratulations on your resolve in your fight for fair pay ✊🏻✊🏻solidarity and good luck ✊🏻✊🏻your fight gives confidence to others to stand up and fight back!

Councillor Terry Jermy, leader of Breckland Labour group

Senior councillors and others were quick to praise our key workers, including Serco staff locally, during the pandemic when they kept vital public services going.

We clapped for them and gave them warm words of encouragement but talk is cheap as they say and now with the cost of living crisis and inflation running wild, our workers locally are struggling.

Serco employees work hard, at all hours of the day, often in difficult conditions and they deserve fair pay for the work that they undertake. Both Serco and Breckland Council can afford to pay these workers better and I call on them to do so.

Cambridge City and South Local Government UNISON

Congratulations on your ballot result and for taking action to defend you pay. Our support goes to you during your strike action, let’s hope the councils and Serco realise your worth and soon pay you what you deserve and need.

Eastern Region FBU

Members of the Eastern Region Fire Brigades Union stand in solidarity with you all in your fight for fair pay and a decent standard of living.

Never forget it was key workers like you who kept the country going throughout the pandemic. Solidarity.

Norfolk & Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust UNISON

Proud to support Serco workers – you all deserve better pay and conditions. Solidarity!

Southend Local Government UNISON

To all Striking Serco workers, we send a message of solidarity to you all fighting against these mean-fisted bosses that prefer to line their pockets with profits than those that do the daily grind, that keep our streets clean.

You do deserve better and you are so right to strike and show your collective strength, hard though it is. We applaud your action its an inspiration to us all, as your fight is our fight!

Stay strong and you will win this.

West Norfolk Local Government UNISON

We know how hard you work on early mornings and in all weathers. You keep this key service going and deserve decent pay and conditions.

Keep up the good work and stay proud that you are fighting for your rights and the rights of other workers in privatised public services.

Solidarity with you all in your fight for fair pay.

Rob Turner, Cambridgeshire County UNISON branch secretary and member of UNISON NEC member

A fantastic ballot result which sends a clear message, that the offer is unacceptable. Keep up the fight and great to see all the support you are receiving.

When it comes to terms and conditions, UNISON should be stood on the picket lines, not the side lines.

Solidarity!

North Norfolk Trades Union Council

North Norfolk TUC is proud to stand alongside UNISON Serco strikers on the picket line, fighting for decent pay in the face of corporate greed and years of local authority underfunding.

We will do all we can to help you achieve victory.

King’s Lynn & District Trades Council

Please pass on a message of solidarity with all those forced to take lawful industrial action. King’s Lynn & District Trades Council would be standing on the picket lines with you if they were closer geographically. As it is, we are standing in spirit & urge you to keep up the fight.

Suffolk County UNISON

We are sending a message of solidarity to the Serco members in Breckland & North Norfolk. Refuse, cleaning and grounds deserve a decent pay offer. A multimillion-pound company like Serco should bow their heads in shame with the shameful offer to its loyal staff.

Adam Oakes, Unite regional officer

Best wishes to members. I know they will be successful in achieving their aims with UNISON behind them.

Peter Passingham, UNISON Eastern regional organiser

Wishing you all the best of luck – stay strong and stand together and you WILL WIN!

Steve Cole, UNISON rep at East Suffolk Norse

Good luck boys, we were days away from strike action but unlike you management listened to reason, stay strong and good luck!

Keith Prince

Well done to refuse and ground maintenance staff in Breckland for standing up to Serco in demanding a realistic pay increase in this time of a cost of living crisis.

As an ex-Serco employee, employed at the Watton depot, I can attest to the complete disregard Serco has for its staff.

As a local resident of Watton I wholeheartedly support your action.

Emma, NNUH

Keep it up 👍🏼 So many people and vital job roles are not even noticed within the public eyes, all required and underpaid 👏🏼👏🏼

Camden UNISON retired members committee

With best wishes for a swift and successful outcome in your battle with the notorious privateer Serco.

Taking strike action inevitably requires courage and determination, but there’s good reason to be hopeful that you will win a much needed real pay rise and help bring forward an end to the privatisation of vital public services.

Yours in solidarity from London!

Catarina Araújo

To all Serco workers, I really hope you get the pay rise you deserve for all your hard work, the efforts you make working through the bad weather, the early mornings, the miles you walk and run every day with such poor conditions. Plus working through lockdown putting your health at risk.

Keep up the good work and don’t give up fighting for your rights. You have my support, you definitely deserve better pay and better conditions! Well done guys!
