The next women’s conference will be held in Brighton from 16 to 18 February 2017.
About 800 women from across the UK attend this conference. There are workshops fringe meetings, formal conference debates and brilliant guest speakers.
What’s it all about?
Women who have been before found it inspirational and motivating. They gained new information, knowledge and confidence that enabled them to get involved in campaigning in their branch. In addition they made new friends and built networks of support.
Our Eastern region motions are on dress codes, sexual harassment, proportionality and the gender wage gap.
At previous Women’s Conferences we have debated and learnt about issues as wide-ranging as:
- Women and the Economy
- Women’s pensions
- Women and cycling
- A global women’s trade union network
- Women united against fascism
- Domestic abuse
- Regional rape conviction rates – it’s a postcode lottery
- Sexual exploitation of women in the media
- Health & Safety
- Education and training courses in UNISON
National Women’s Conference is the UNISON event for women.
Who can go?
Every branch can send at least one woman delegate. Depending on how big your branch is more delegates can attend (up to a maximum of five).
The deadline to register as a delegate is Friday 9th December at 5pm
There is no deadline to register as a visitor but places are allocated on a first come first served basis.
If you would like to attend contact your branch. You can use the Branch Finder if you don’t know their contact details.
How much will it cost me?
Nothing. Branches are responsible for funding their delegates’ and visitors’ attendance at conference. Delegates travel costs will be met by national office.
Subsistence expenses should cover the cost of accommodation, meals, childcare, dependent care and facilitation. Your branch can pay this to you in advance of conference to ensure you have enough money while you are away from home.
Crèche and Babysitting
Creche provision is available for children up to the age of 16 years. Arrangements have been made for Nipperbout, the company contracted to provide crèche facilities at all UNISON national conferences, to provide babysitting. Should you require this service please complete the request online by Friday 23 December 2016.
The cost for babysitting is borne by the branch so you will need to let your branch secretary know that you require this service.
