Huntingdonshire District Council staff are celebrating today as managing director Jo Lancaster signs a union recognition agreement with UNISON.

The voluntary agreement solidifies the relationship between the council and UNISON, laying out how both will work together to negotiate on behalf of staff.

With this agreement in place, union officials will be provided with the appropriate time to support their colleagues and they will have access to a variety of training from the union.

UNISON Cambs County branch secretary Rob Turner said: “This is an important day for Huntingdonshire District Council and its employees.

“It’s the culmination of hundreds of hours of hard work at all levels of the organisation showing how productive the relationship between UNISON and Huntingdonshire District Council is already.

“But it won’t just benefit council workers. Improvements in the workplace will allow staff to deliver better services to people across Huntingdonshire.”

Cllr Martin Hassall, Executive Councillor for Corporate and Shared Services at Huntingdonshire District Council, said: “We have had a good relationship with UNISON for several years and have now signed a voluntary recognition agreement that formalises this arrangement.

“The agreement with UNISON allows us and our Employee Representatives Group to work in partnership to continue doing all we can to support our staff when they need it.”
